•    What happens when I switch?

•    Will there be an interruption to my supply?

•    I’m a business customer - can you help me?

What are tariffs?

The term tariff refers to the name of a gas and/or electricity plan. It’s not a fee in the normal sense of the word, but it does determine the rates you are charged as well as any additional features. Click here to visit our page on the choice of tariffs available, including fixed, capped, standard and online.

Can you estimate how much gas & electricity I use?

Yes, we can estimate your usage for you if you don't know it.  On the screen where you enter your current tariff details, select 'I don't know my gas usage' and/or 'I don't know my electricity usage', and you can then select from High, Medium or Lower usage depending on your property size.  We can then use this information to provide you with an estimate of your consumption and find the best plans to suit your needs.

What happens when I switch?Switching gas and electricity suppliers with energyhelpline.com couldn't be easier.

Once you have chosen a new supplier you will need to provide us with some basic details to process your switch application. This information is forwarded to your new supplier who will arrange the switch. We will send you an email to confirm the details of the switch and a contact point for your new supplier.

Within a month you should be given a supply transfer date by your new supplier. On this day you should take a meter reading and submit it to your new supplier - this will be passed onto your old supplier so that they can arrange your final bill. Your new supplier will organise the entire transfer process. You do not need to contact your old supplier and there will be no interruption to your gas or electricity supply.

The only changes that you will notice will be a lower bill and/or improved customer service from your new supplier.

Will there be an interruption to my supply?

There will be no interruption whatsoever; you will be able to use your gas and/or electricity throughout the process.

There is no need to change any meters, wires or pipes – your new supplier uses the same equipment as your old one.

The only changes that you will notice will be a lower bill and/or improved customer service from your new supplier.

I’m a business customer - can you help me?

Yes, of course. In fact we have a unit specialising in business energy.

Because business tariffs are individually negotiated with suppliers they cannot be put on a calculator. However, we have contracts with most of the cheaper suppliers in the market so we can save you money, and we have a team of expert business advisors to help find you the right tariff.
Once we have your basic details, a business advisor will call you back and explain what happens next.

What is a meter number?

All gas and electricity meters have unique registration numbers identifying them to suppliers. Meter numbers are normally noted on every bill you receive from a supplier. If you do not have access to your meter's identification number, we have a special tool which can automatically identify the meter details of 90% of UK addresses.

In the event that we cannot identify your electricity meter’s details you should contact your electricity supplier directly and request the information.

In the event that we cannot identify the details of your gas meter you can contact the Meter Number Hotline on 0870 608 1524, who will be able to help you.

Are your prices up to date?

Yes - we monitor suppliers and tariffs on a continuous basis.  In most cases, we receive information before tariff changes actually come into effect.  In this way we are able to provide you with the best advice based on the most accurate and comprehensive data available.
